It is essential to remember that not all leaders with little or no empathy are necessarily "bad" people. Some may have grown up in an environment where they have never seen or experienced good leadership themselves. Others may have faced personal challenges that have affected their ability to empathise with others, making them unaware of the impact of their actions or even believing that they are acting in their organisation's best interest.
In this article, I reflected on my experience and those of others around me, and shared my thoughts on how organisations can help them develop the qualities they need to become empathetic leaders.
Although last year was full of unexpected twists and turns, it was also a memorable and rewarding one for me - professionally. And looking ahead, I can only be grateful for the experiences and opportunities that came along with it. As we head into this new year, I am convinced that with a flexible and growth mindset, it will be possible to overcome any challenges that might come along.
While this might seem like a repetition of the countless motivational or success tips out there, I still wanted to share on the subject. Especially in difficult times like we have now, I am convinced that a positive mindset and attitude can be life-changing and help to produce the energy needed to escape any problematic situation.
As humans wishing our situation could be better, we might often take these luxuries and privileges for granted. This is why I decided on the occasion of German Unity Day to write this piece to express my gratitude and pay a genuine compliment to my host country for providing me with a home and community after I had "Japad".
