How Your Mindset and Attitude Can Make a Difference
I love stories. And for some time now, I have been interested in reading about people’s experiences discussing success or failure. In this piece, I decided to share a short story on how one’s mindset and attitude can make a difference and help to produce the energy needed to escape any problematic situation.
My story: How I almost dropped out of university to work at a fast food restaurant
“Once your mindset changes, everything on the outside will change along with it.” — Steve Maraboli
My financial circumstances could have been better when I was a university student. So to improve my situation, I took a part-time job in the kitchen of a fast-food restaurant. Towards the end of my studies, the demands of working in a fast-food restaurant began to have a toll on my academics, and it got to a point where I started to contemplate dropping out of university for a while. But working in the kitchen of that fast food restaurant was one of the most stressful and mentally draining experiences I have had to deal with that I couldn’t imagine spending more time in such an environment.
It was not a good situation, and I knew that if I didn’t want it to continue, I would have to change something. So I began to approach my studies and life situation with a different mindset and attitude;
"Instead of dwelling on problems, I began to see and recognize opportunities"
This approach did not only help me cope more easily with my challenges but made it easier for me to avoid short-term worries and negative thinking. Of course, I still encountered obstacles, but the new approach made much of a difference.
While this might seem like a repetition of the countless motivational or success tips out there, I still wanted to share on the subject. Especially in difficult times like we have now, I am convinced that a positive mindset and attitude can be life-changing and help to produce the energy needed to escape any problematic situation.
